Finally got the Elmarit M 90 today, pretty good lens but not top quality like a Lux or Cron. I mean the feel of the metal, focusing ring and overall not as solid as the other two. On the positive side it is very sharp like some say but not any sharper than the Nikon 85mm f/1.4 and if you don’t believe me, here is the proof. So continue reading.
I set up a bicycle 15 ft. away and focus on the piece of tape on the planter. Right away I noticed the camera is focusing about 10 inches away of the mark, so I used the Olympus Viewfinder VF-2 for this test. On the following photos, is one sharper than the other and does the background blur look better than the other? Finally, look at the color cast, same white balance, same exposure, same everything exported from a DNG file in Lightroom and you still see that the Leica glass is warmer than the Nikon, I appreciate the look of the Leica more. The bottom two images are taken at f/5.6 in which most good quality lenses are about equal, but even at f/2.8 they seem very similar in sharpness, only the color is different, one has that warmer tone while the other has a cooler temp and more digital look.
